An artificial tree can anchor a room the way a piece of furniture does — get the size and style wrong and it competes with the space instead of completing it. Here's what to think through before choosing one.
Start With Ceiling Height
A tree that's too tall for the room crowds the ceiling; one that's too short gets lost. As a rough guide, leave at least 30–40cm of clearance between the top of the canopy and the ceiling.
Match the Canopy Shape to the Room
Slim, upright trees (like an olive or ficus with a narrow canopy) work well in tight corners or hallways. Fuller, rounder canopies need more open floor space to read properly.
Consider the Light in the Room
Artificial trees don't need light to survive, but the room's natural light still affects how realistic they look — leaves catch and reflect light differently under bright windows versus dim corners.
Think About the Pot
The planter is part of the design, not an afterthought. A tall floor planter suits a statement tree in a lobby or living room; a smaller ceramic pot suits a desk or side-table sized piece.
Indoor vs Outdoor Rated
If the tree will sit near a window with direct sun, on a balcony, or outdoors, make sure it's UV-stabilised — standard indoor foliage will fade faster under direct sunlight.
